Clorox is a marvelous cleaning and disinfecting agent. The vinyl siding of our house had fallen off in several areas, so I picked them up and washed the dirt and grass off with a Clorox/water mix. After putting them back up, they were visibly whiter and brighter than the rest of the siding. I decided to mop just that section of the house with my cleanser and guesstimated a 30 minute project. Boy was I wrong! The more I cleansed, the more visible the dirt became on the rest of the house. This “small” project ended up taking two days with the help of my wonderful father.
Have you ever noticed something small in your character or behavior that needed a bit of cleaning, but when you began working on that area, other “dirty” areas began surfacing? The Bible shows us what true perfection is, so as we begin studying it and examining our own lives, we see our need for cleansing.
“Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.” Romans 3:20
For example, I gossiped about someone and was deeply convicted through my devotion time with God that day, but I also found that the reason I gossiped was due to pent up anger and bitterness.
We must “cleanse” our mind with the God’s Word each day. This saves us from having to spend grueling days, hours, or even years trying to clean up the filth and grime left by unrepentant sin. It will also give us freedom and joy in knowing that we are pleasing God by walking in obedience.
“Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.” (Psalm 51:2)
“How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.” (Psalm 119:9)
“…as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to former lusts, as in your ignorance; but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written ‘Be holy, for I am holy’”. (1 Peter 1:14-16)
Are you ready to begin cleaning up the dirty places?
Examine your thoughts and actions, compare them to the way God has instructed us to think and act as His followers, and then begin making needed changes.
