Have you ever noticed how difficult it can be to move forward while looking back?

One day I was walking out to my garage to get something when my husband asked me a question. I looked back to answer him but continued walking forward. The next thing I knew I was lying flat on the garage floor.

Moving forward while looking back will not only hinder our progress, but it may also cause us to stumble and fall.

Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:13-14)

I am reminded through this Scripture that moving forward isn’t an easy thing to do. The very words that the apostle Paul uses to describe the method of moving forward imply that it takes a deliberate action. He uses words like pressing on, straining toward, and taking hold.

“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.” (Philippians 3:12)

Is the road to progress getting a little difficult to travel? Are you at a place in your Christian walk where you could use a little pep talk?

Take Paul’s advice. Forget the past, press forward, and keep your eyes fixed on Jesus. Not only will He guide your steps, but He will keep you on the right path and clear the trail up ahead. Keep pressing on!
