“Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.” (Proverbs 16:3)
Cooking is my least favorite household chore. If I could have any kind of live-in help, it would be a cook. I’ll take cleaning and laundry over cooking any day!
One Saturday, while sorting some clothes, the commonalities between life and laundry suddenly became quite apparent.
When I tackle laundry, I gather all dirty clothes and sort them into piles. The largest pile determines where I’m going to begin. If the white pile is biggest, I start there. If the color pile is biggest, I start there. Once I have the biggest load out of the way, I feel a sense of accomplishment and the pressure lessens.
Prioritizing my life can be somewhat similar. I seize the day by taking on the biggest projects first. Once they are out of the way, my stress level lessens, and I can move on to other tasks.
But as I tend to do with laundry, sometimes I become a little too relaxed with the seemingly smaller projects. The last load of laundry will sometimes sit in my dryer for days until I finally get around to folding and putting away.
Those seemingly small projects are just as important as the big ones. If I don’t complete them in a timely manner, there can be negative consequences. Like clothes sitting in my dryer, neglect leads to unsightly wrinkles that eventually need ironed out.
What about you? Are there areas of your life not receiving the full attention they deserve?
Sometimes the smallest things in our eyes are the biggest things in God’s. I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling convicted to treat all areas of my life with equal care and attention.
“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’” (Matthew 25:21)
Goodness! I just remembered… I need to go fold a load of laundry in the dryer!
What can I say? I’m a work in progress.
