Vacations are always bittersweet to me. It’s depressing to leave warm weather and full days of activities, but I always have a longing to get back home. The sight of the Lawrenceburg exit ramp brings a bit of excitement. My dog greets us with joy when we pick her up at the kennel and we reconnect with friends and family again to catch up on news. Ahhh…home sweet home.
I often think about my heavenly home with much the same anxiousness. I look forward to seeing loved ones and going to the wonderful and pure place that God has been prepared. I will see the glory of my Heavenly Father, no more worries, war, pain, grief, death or anger, a place of sinless perfection. “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”
There will be no need for light because God’s glory will be so amazingly bright. Just imagine worshiping with the angels around the throne. “Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!” (Revelation 19:6). We who are heaven bound will one day walk on streets of gold, live in mansions of glory, and spend our days glorifying the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Heaven is my destination and this journey on earth is only temporary.
We who have put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ are strangers on this earth, but will soon reach our destination. Our time on here is fleeting and there are so many who have not accepted Christ as their Savior. They are headed to a place of eternal torment and fire and their consciences will eat away at them like a worm forever. “It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched-where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.” (Mark 9:43b-44).
The end is drawing nigh and signs of the times are being revealed. No one knows when Christ will return, but we do know that we are all bound for one of two places. I long to be with my Heavenly Father, but there is much unfinished work to do. All who are alive are not finished yet. If your work was done God would’ve called you home by now. I cry out with a warning like the prophets in the Old Testament: Prepare yourselves for the coming of Christ! Pray for those who need to be saved and don’t pass up an opportunity to witness. You may be the one God has appointed to be the light in someone’s life.
When moving day comes, are you prepared? Do you know your destination? Anyone can be saved, but not everyone will accept the gift. It’s our God-given duty to make sure those around us know how to get to Heaven. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
