Have you ever had friends who, no matter how much time passed between your visits, you fell right back into the groove of where your friendship left off?
Years ago, some treasured friends moved back to their hometown because they needed to be closer to their family and aging parents. I was very sad when they had to go, but I knew they were going where they needed to be. Although our homes were two hours apart, our hearts remained closely linked. Our friendship is fortified through our mutual relationship with God. His presence unites our spirits with each special reunion. He is the third cord strand that keeps us in fellowship.
“…A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” (Ecclesiastes 4:12b)
We recently had the opportunity to meet-up for dinner and catch up on one another’s lives. Like always, it was a special time of laughter and fun as we reminisced over days gone by. It felt as though no time had passed since our last gathering.
Reunions on earth are wonderful, but think how amazing it will be to reconnect with our loved ones in heaven. I imagine we too will reminisce over days gone by and feel as though no time has passed between us.
If your heart is heavy over physical or emotional separation, I encourage you to open God’s Word and let His amorous Words wrap you in loving embrace; it is where you will find comfort and peace.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18)
Pain caused by loss is overwhelming for sure, but eventually hearts heal and life goes on. It is comforting to remember that our time on earth is a mere spec compared to God’s calendar of eternity. Rest assured, we will be with our loved ones again, and when we join with them for our eternal gathering, God’s presence will make it a special reunion indeed.
“Shout for joy, O heavens;
rejoice, O earth;
burst into song, O mountains!
For the Lord comforts his people
and will have compassion on his afflicted ones.” (Isaiah 49:13)
“I will turn their mourning into gladness; I will give them comfort and joy instead of sorrow.” (Jeremiah 31:13b)
Dear Lord, I know that some reading this today have heavy hearts over the loss of family or friends. No matter what type of separation they face, I pray You would provide comfort and peace until they are gathered again in Your presence. Amen
