INTRODUCTION: Maggie Cole was diagnosed with AML (an aggressive form of Leukemia) in July of this year and has graciously agreed to share a bit of her story with us

By Maggie Cole

It’s been a while since I have posted. I arrived at hospital on Monday for my second round of consolidation chemotherapy.  In this round, I have six bags of chemo to endure for the next six days.  I should be able to go back home on Saturday to allow my body to recover and my counts return to normal for a few weeks before I start the third and hopefully final round of chemotherapy.

Thankfully, last week, since my counts were up, I was able to go out to dinner a few times with my husband.  We even got to celebrate him as he turned 26!  I also had the opportunity to spend some time with friends I haven’t physically seen in a long time.  It was so good to be in the presence of people who support me, pray for me, and laugh with me. I loved feeling normal, even if it was just for a few days!

As I was able to get out more last week, I was able to wear a couple of wigs that I have purchased or have been gifted to me.  My mom and I spent some time crafting names for all of my wigs as each one has a different look.  We based the names according to the style and what we thought that wig’s personality would bring out in me. We coined one wig as the “wild girl.” Another wig as the “sporty girl.” And yet another was “basic normal girl.”

Although I didn’t portray a different personality as I wore the different wigs, it made me think of claiming your own identity and not hiding behind or creating a false one.  It made me reflect on all the times in my life that I have felt like hiding in a wig and not being the real me because of my own insecurities.

In the past, I have struggled with the false identities like:

  • insecure girl
  • rejected girl
  • not fun girl
  • anxious girl

THOSE ARE FALSE IDENTITIES AND LIES!!!

In college I spent a lot of time claiming my identity according to the Word of God!

  • God says I am HIS GIRL.
  • God says I am a CHOSEN GIRL.
  • God says I am a NEVER FORSAKEN GIRL.
  • God says I am a FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT GIRL.
  • God says I am a PEACE SEEKING GIRL
  • God says I am a HEALED GIRL.

Whenever you feel insecure, don’t believe the lies that Satan would love for you to believe.  Take off the false identities (or “wigs”) and remember who GOD says you are!  Let Him transform your insecurities into a God-given confidence through these verses:

“The LORD your GOD has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession” (Deuteronomy 7:6).

“In all these things we are more than conquerors through Christ Jesus, whom loves us” (Romans 8:37).

“For those who are led by the Spirit are children of God” (Romans 8: 14).

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13).

“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom and faithful instruction is on her tongue” (Proverbs 31 25-26).

END NOTE: Let’s continue to pray for Maggie’s complete healing and restoration.
