“Show me, O LORD, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting is my life.” (Psalm 39:4)
In football, as long as there are minutes on the game clock, points can be scored. In the last three and a half minutes of one particular game, there were five changeovers between the two teams. That’s incredible! The game was nearly over, and yet I saw more excitement in those final moments of the game than in all three previous quarters combined. It seemed that neither team grew serious about winning until the game was nearly over.
Sometimes we take on a similar attitude in this game called life. It’s not until we realize our years are nearly over that we suddenly get serious about living.
Several years ago, a movie called The Bucket List, starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman, depicted two terminally ill men who decided to live their final moments doing all the things they wished they’d done earlier in life.
Why is it that we put off until tomorrow what we could just as easily do today? At forty plus years of age, I’ve come face to face with own my mortality. According to statistics, my life is more than halfway over. That’s a sobering thought!
“For my soul is full of trouble and my life draws near the grave.” (Psalm 88:3)
We’re all going to die; it’s the one thing we have in common. So, as long as we have breath, let’s live life to its fullest. I don’t know about you, but I still have plenty of places to go and people to meet.
Are there things you would still like to do in life? Don’t wait for the final moments of the game; time is running out. Start living life to the fullest today!
“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10)
