Former British special forces officer, Bear Grylls, navigates some of the most remote places of the world by applying his life-saving survival techniques.  On his television show Man vs. Wild, Bear stresses the importance of getting a fire started each time he sets up camp for the night, saying he finds nothing more encouraging and spirit-lifting than the glow of a fire.  It provides warmth, light, and protection.  A fire warms us inside and out and offers hope to tired and weary souls.

The flame of God’s Spirit does the same thing for you and me.  No matter what stress, loneliness, or suffering we endure in this life, we can always find warmth for our souls through the flame of God’s Spirit.

“And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.” (Romans 5:5)

Do you feel as though you are wandering in the wilderness—tired and lonely, feeling depleted of strength?  Take Bear’s advice: Rest by the glow of God’s Spirit and allow the warmth of His love to deliver hope to your soul.

“My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word.” (Psalm 119:28)

“May the God of hope fill you with all the joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13)
