“I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear.” (John 16:12)

More is coming.

Don’t give up.  Keep following me here and in a few short days you will find out what 12.12.12 is all about.

Now, here is your daily encouragement too!

A Team Sport

“The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ.” (1 Corinthians 12:12)

My closest friends know that I absolutely love football! I fell in love with the game when I was a teenager, but my love affair with the sport began a bit unconventionally.

It all started with a little handheld electronic football game my dad received for Christmas one year. As electronic games go, this was certainly primitive – especially by today’s standards.  Team members were represented by little dashes on the screen. The object of the game was to get your dash past the other dashes and score a touchdown. It was with this little electronic device that I learned the mechanics of football and grew a passion for the sport.

Ever since then, football season has been an eagerly anticipated time of year in our home. Thankfully, my husband and I share a common zeal for the game. Sundays after church are spent in front of the television set, watching our favorite teams play.

Football is complex sport, which is one of the reasons I love it. Just when I think I have the game figured out, some foul takes place, and I’m learning a rule I never before knew. In football, no two games are alike.  The best and most productive games are when each player performs their job to the best of their ability, working together as a team.

Christianity is a lot like football. Working together, we must push through obstacles great and small to advance God’s kingdom here on earth. The stakes are high, but the reward is great. One yard at a time, we keep moving forward! Whether we’re running the ball up the field or clearing the path for others, we each have a job to do. Let’s do it to the best of our ability.

“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.” (1 Corinthians 9:24)

“Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” (1 Corinthians 12:27)

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” (Hebrews 12:1)
