Yesterday I mentioned how God provides stepping stones along our journey of life as we get to know Him and overcome obstacles in our lives.  One particular stepping stone in my life was when He gave me the Scripture of 1 Corinthians 6:19-20.  It says, “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?  You are not your own; you were bought at a price.  Therefore honor God with your body.”

What an amazing Truth to learn – and more importantly, to believe!  Until that point, I had believed my body was my own and I was to use it for my own pleasure, purposes and even to my own glory.  How misinformed I had been!  Without even realizing I’d been deceived, I bought into the lies of this world.  The lies are everywhere, and they lead us to believe that we deserve _________ (fill in the blank) in order to be happy or to feel satisfied.

God graciously taught me (and continues to teach me) that how I dress, the things I say about myself, what I eat and what I do are all for Him and should reflect Christ and godly living.

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.  The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loves me and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20)

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.  And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” (2 Corinthians 3:17-18)

I have these and other Scriptures posted on the walls and mirrors around my room; they are daily reminders for me.  The world and Satan constantly shout lies, and we need to be shouting back (preferably with a megaphone) the Truth that is found in God’s Word, the Bible.  “Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” (Ephesians 6:17)

“[Satan] was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him.  When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” (John 8:44)

“Be self-controlled and alert.  Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8)

“For the word of God is living and active.  Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)
