Do you remember the first time you realized the bigness of God?

Do you remember when you first saw the ocean or the mountains or the thousands of stars in the sky?

Do you remember that time you saw a million grains of sand or the biggest tree ever like a redwood? 

Whom have I in heaven but you and whom do I desire but you? (Psalm 73:25 paraphrase)

Do you remember when you got into the ocean for the first time?

Do you remember your first time in a plane looking around in the clouds?

Do you remember building a sand castle or having the sand run through your fingers?

There’s a difference between seeing something from a far, its greatness, and being IN IT, experiencing it and becoming one with it.

I was swimming in the ocean and had this moment of feeling fully aware of God’s bigness and my smallness, having the water all around me, immersed, on every side, even in my ears.  I was one with the ocean. I had a new feeling of being intimate. Nothing was hiding. I was floating. No shame, no part of me left out. It was refreshing and light.

This is our life with God. Our God is worthy of all the praise and also wants to be your closest companion and comfort.

Have you tapped into the depth of the relationship that you can have with Jesus? Do you know him as God and Father?  Jesus and Brother?  Holy Spirit and Counselor?

Our God is incredibly big. 

  • He’s vast.
  • He commands the ocean where to stop and the stars where to stand in the sky.
  • The earth is his footstool.
  • He causes the sun to come up each morning and set each night.
  • He’s beyond our comprehension, yet he cares for your deepest longing.
  • He wants you to cast your cares on him.

I encourage you to ask Him to help you understand his love for you.  Be in awe. Worship him. Adore him. Give him glory. Write him love letters. Tell him your deepest wounds and fears. Intimacy is the sweetest experience you’ll have with Jesus. 

“For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge- that you may be filled to the measure of all of the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:14-18).
