I often drive somewhere and upon arrival get out of my car and think…how did I get here?  What happened in the last 10 minutes or 2 hours of that car ride to get me here?  Do you ever have those thoughts?  Almost like your drive was an out of body experience?

I’ve realized lately, this is how I’ve been living life in my body, as a vehicle to get me to the places I need to go. Not often do I slow down enough to think about how it’s moving, if it needs anything, to listen, if it’s telling me anything, to sit in it and be thankful for how it’s serving me day in and day out.

Yet, my body is way more valuable than a car. I have access to many cars. I only have one body. Sadly, bodies come to a halt often when not cared for. You don’t get to just trade them in.

Our bodies keep the memories of everything we go through, all the joy and pain, the great memories we don’t want to end and the traumas we wish had never happened that play over and over again. It stores it all and tucks it away in our cells. If we don’t slow down to give it daily care, monthly tune-ups and yearly cleansings, our bodies will become all filled up with those things.

We often don’t know how to care for our bodies, we aren’t mechanics. But Jesus does. Our bodies are made for the Lord, and He was made for our bodies (1 Corinthians 6:13 NIV).

Jesus lives in us. We are his temple.

So we have to slow down, sit with Jesus and let him be our driver.  Experience the scenery. Look up. Listen to our bodies. Example, make a fist and slowly release one finger at a time and feel every bone release and thank him for giving us each one and then thank him for those fingers.  What do you feel?

I know this takes time. It’s ok. It will come. I don’t have the answers all buttoned up in a pretty picture right now. But I’m not going to go through life or another car ride just to get to the end and not know how I got there.

I want to feel alive, sad or happy, feel it all and know that God’s dwelling is in me and I’m paying attention to his movements in me.

Father, I’m not sure what kind of care I need to reconnect with the temple you’ve given me. But the first step is to slow down and ask you to make me feel again. Awaken in me your Spirit. Help me not to rush, or numb out when things get hard. I want to have the abundance of a full life you’ve promised so that others can experience your glory and glorify your name.  I trust you to lead me. Amen.

“With all prayer and petition pray [with specific requests] at all times [on every occasion and in every season] in the Spirit, and with this in view, stay alert with all perseverance and petition [interceding in prayer] for all God’s people” (Ephesians 6:18 AMP).
