Clues: 1) They are in high demand. 2) You see them everywhere. 3) People of all ages use them. What are they? BIKES!!! If I were a gambler, I’d bet my best running shoes that bikes are in higher demand now more than ever. Perhaps people are feeling the pressure of rising gasoline prices or maybe they just want to find an enjoyable form of exercise. I don’t even own a bike, so last weekend I made a trip to the local bike shop to learn more about what type of bicycle would be a fit for me. I researched various types of bikes before I went so that I would know what kind of questions to ask.

The salesman explained that bikes have different frames, tires, brakes, gear shifts, heights, widths, depths, and purposes. Every person needs a bike that is suitable for their physical build or else there might be achy physical consequences. Why did the front of my knees ache on certain bikes? The seat was too high. And all this time I thought that a lower seat position would kill my knees!

The salesman even explained that road bikes tend to have a narrow protruding strip around the middle circumference of the tire. This makes the road bike speedier than the mountain bike. Each bike is made differently based upon its intended purpose.

God has designed each human body with His own hands. Every detail has been thoughtfully and carefully created and put in place. Out of all of the fingers in the world, your thumb is the only thumb with its own pattern. Every person has fingerprint swirls different than anyone. The human body is amazing and awe inspiring in every way. It is intricate and complicated, and designed for a specific purpose. Your body and personality are two of millions of things that are YOU specific.

Women who are short and stocky tend to excel in a sport such as gymnastics. Artistic people tend have imagination and creativity. They might excel in in dance, art, writing, or music. Just take a glance the numerous personality trait tests. Even your personality can lead you to pursue a certain career path or marriage prospect. You have purpose because God created you for a purpose. Those who think they serve no purpose, have no hope. Each day is meaningless toil. It is just mere survival.

Don’t you desire more than just surviving each day? I do. By the grace of God, I have survived. Now, I desire to thrive. Thriving means spending joyful time in God’s Word and prayer continually. Much like feet moving the pedals of the bike, time with God propels my mind and body. It is the driving force of everything I do and say during the course of a day.

Do you have purpose? Absolutely!!! If you feel you don’t have any purpose on this earth, begin in prayer. Pray that God will open your ears and eyes to His will for your life. Next, open the Word and begin reading Scripture. Other things might include getting into church life, joining a Bible study group online or in-person, attending a church event, and seeking Christian friends.

Life is not meant to just pass you by with no intended purpose. Find out what type of “bike” you are and then ride where you were created to go!

“Then God said, ‘Let Us make mankind in Our image, in Our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.’”  “So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them” Genesis 1:26-27.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” Jeremiah 32:19.

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” Ephesians 2:10.
