“If I am devoted to the cause of humanity only, I will soon be exhausted and come to the place where my love will falter; but if I love Jesus Christ personally and passionately, I can serve humanity, though men treat me as a doormat.” ~Oswald Chambers – My Utmost for His Highest

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)

Devotion pushes through the obstacles, preservers under great pressure, and struggles against the odds.

Living in Truth Ministries is wholeheartedly devoted to the cause of trying to raise awareness about the dangers of eating disorders, as well as providing an example of hope and true healing through the Great Physician – Jesus Christ.

Eating disorders are a very serious problem in our culture today.  Since the 1960’s the number of eating disorder cases has doubled and is affecting increasingly younger individuals. Up to twenty-four million people suffer from eating disorders in the U.S. alone – seventy million worldwide. Anorexia has the highest mortality rate of any mental illness. Sadly, up to ten percent of those afflicted will die as a result of starvation, cardiac arrest, or suicide. The statistics are shocking; and yet, there’s still much taboo surrounding this subject. Many do not understand the disease nor do they realize its severity.

Despite popular belief an eating disorder is not about food, but rather, it involves extreme emotions, behaviors, and attitudes surrounding food, weight and appearance. Those who suffer have extreme fears about becoming fat and are in a constant pursuit of being thin.  Eating disorders become a coping mechanism for controlling one’s emotions, stress, and anxiety.

Food is not the problem. Therefore, food is not the solution.  The method for breaking free from eating disorders requires a different approach than other addictions. A person cannot simply remove food from their lives. One must, instead, learn how to change their attitudes surrounding the addictive behavior which involves food. Because eating disorders are self-inflicted, they are difficult to treat and overcome.  The disease is considered a mental illness; therefore, it is necessary to address this problem at its root – in the mind.

“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12:2)

We renew our mind by replacing the many lies we have come to believe about ourselves and the world we live in with truth in God’s Word.

“Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32)

Won’t you join us in this effort to help others find this same freedom?  If you know someone who struggles or are in a position of influence involving those who might be at risk for developing an eating disorder, I implore you to connect them with this ministry.

We are devoted to this cause!
