Today’s Post By: Rae Lynn DeAngelis

The gas gauge on my car was nearing empty, so I looked for the closest gas station. As I pulled up to the pump and rolled down my window, the attendant asked me, “Can I help you?”

I reached down and pulled the tank release lever on the floor by my seat and said, “Yes, fill it up please?” At that moment the trunk popped open!  Apparently, I had pulled the trunk release instead of the gas tank release.  I apologized and explained to the attendant that the car was new and I was still getting used to everything.  He gave me a wary smile, but obviously didn’t’ find the moment as amusing as me. I couldn’t stop laughing! The idea of filling the trunk of my car with gas makes me giggle to this day.

Cars are fueled by gas, but people are fueled by God’s Spirit.  People search long and hard to fill the emptiness in their souls. In a desperate attempt to be filled, some saturate their lives with material possessions, money, substances, careers-even food. Yet fulfillment eludes them.

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” (Matthew 5:6)

We can never satisfy the longing in our hearts with the things of this world.  True fulfillment comes from a relationship with Jesus.  We need to recognize when our spiritual tank is running low and head to the place where we can be filled.

“Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4:13:14)

Have you spent adequate time filling-up with God’s Spirit today?
