“But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.” (Psalm 33:11)

At the core of every human being lies an intense desire to matter in this world. We want to know that our lives have meaning and purpose. This longing is not a sin. God created us with this intense desire so we would one day seek Him. Our ultimate purpose on earth is fulfilled through knowing Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

In His infinite wisdom God knows His plan and purpose for our lives. When we trust God’s higher ways, His plan becomes our purpose.

As Christians, we have a universal purpose in this world to love, serve, and worship our King. We are also called to love one another and share the Gospel message throughout the world. These callings are common for all of God’s children.

But what about our individual purpose in this world? Does God have something specific for each one of us? The answer is yes; but in order to know and understand our specific purpose, we must first know and understand our Heavenly Father. He holds the key to our purpose-filled future.

“I cry out to God Most High, to God, who fulfills his purpose for me.” (Psalm 57:2)

In order to fulfill God’s purpose for our lives, we must trade our personal goals, aspirations, and ways for His. Easier said than done! It takes a whole lot of surrender on our part. A song called “Surrender” by Barlow Girl exposes the struggles we feel when it comes to letting go of what we hold so tightly – our dreams. Often our dreams become such a part of us that we feel by letting go we are losing part of ourselves.

“For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it.” (Matthew 16:25)

Our dreams are so limited. God has something so much better waiting for us, but before God can fill us with His greater plan and purpose, we must first unclench our fists and empty our hands of our self-appointed agendas.  As long as we have our own plan in place – God’s plan can never fully flourish.

“The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me; your love, O LORD, endures forever— do not abandon the works of your hands.” (Psalm 138:8).

“Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.” (Proverbs 19:21)

I don’t know about you, but I want God’s plan to be my purpose.
