Torrential downpours prevailed the day of our daughter’s wedding, but thankfully, the Lord kept the rain away during the times we needed to be outside.
After the wedding ceremony, the sun peaked out of the clouds long enough for some outdoor pictures of the bride and groom on the grounds of the golf club where the reception was being held. All of the guests were eagerly awaiting the couple’s arrival, but the photo session seemed to be taking an awfully long time.
Eventually, the photographer’s assistant pulled me aside and informed me that my daughter needed me. I thought to myself, Oh no! What happened?
As I approached the scene, my daughter and new son-in-law had very concerned looks on their faces. I soon found out why. During the photo session, our son-in-law accidentally stepped on his new bride’s dress, tearing the bustle ties that held up the long train. Since the bride and groom had a choreographed ballroom dance they’d been working on for months, this was a problem. Their dance would be impossible without her dress tied up.
We didn’t have needle and thread to sew the bustle strings back together, so I was a bit perplexed as to how we were going to fix the problem. When the reception coordinator said she had an idea, we were all ears. Lo and behold, her little remedy included rubber bands! Ten minutes later, the train was up and out of the way, and no one was the wiser. The rubber bands were our little secret.
“…call upon me in the day of trouble;
I will deliver you…” (Psalm 50:15)
Sometimes life throws us a curve ball and we have to make the best of it. There’s no sense getting all upset and frustrated over circumstances we cannot control. Stressing out only causes greater anxiety. When things don’t go as planned, we need step back, take a deep breath, and remember, we have a great big God who can help us through anything life throws our way.
“Ah, Sovereign LORD, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.” (Jeremiah 32:17)
“The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” (Deuteronomy 31:8)
