“….call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you.” (Psalm 50:15)

After suffering several days with severe headache pain and pressure behind his left eye, my husband finally gave in and went to a nearby urgent care center. Gerry had gone to the eye doctor two days earlier, but the examination revealed the problem was not in his eye. Something else had to be causing his pain. The eye doctor suggested a warm compress and Advil (both of which my husband tried), but the throbbing continued. With no relief in sight, we began to wonder if this could be something serious.

At the urgent care center, the physician asked several questions, trying to determine what might be going on. It seems the science of medicine is a process of elimination. Questions, tests, and symptoms must be examined to rule out what an ailment is not, before determining a probable diagnosis. Based on his symptoms and the examination, the urgent care physician told us my husband was likely experiencing cluster migraines.

An hour after taking the prescribed pain medication and receiving an injection for some immediate pain relief, my husband’s headache was finally gone.

Sometimes in life, we experience an emotional or spiritual ache that requires some investigating. Understanding the root of our pain is the first step to finding lasting relief. We need to quit treating our symptoms with temporary fixes from the world and look for lasting relief—the kind that can only come through the Great Physician, Jesus Christ.

Pray for God to show you where your life might be out of balance. Then request His prescription to help you get back on track. Do some investigating, and eventually, God will help you get to the bottom of your pain and provide you with lasting relief.

“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (Psalm 139:23-24)
