“Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God” (Mark 10:27).

One of the biggest lies of the enemy is you can’t do this. However, his cynicism is often cloaked in less obvious verbiage. It’s not worth fighting for. You’re not strong enough to see this thing through. You’re wasting your time. You don’t have what it takes.

Through the enemy’s subliminal scorn and our own negative thoughts we begin to waiver in our resolve, especially when we have trusted in our own strength and abilities.

But as Christians, we do not need to rely on our own strength and abilities. As a matter of fact, we can accomplish a whole lot more through our weaknesses than we can through our strengths.

Why?

Because when we are weak, God is strong!

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9).

On a daily basis, I minister to women seeking freedom from disordered eating or women desiring to find contentment in the body they have right now. Regardless of where they fall on the spectrum, each individual faces a similar challenge—overcoming the lies of the enemy and turning I can’t do this mentality into I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.

Over the years and through my own personal struggles, I have experienced unbelief as the greatest antithesis to I can mentality.

For this reason, and many others, we need to arm ourselves with the sword of the Spirit, filling our hearts and minds with biblical truths that counteract the enemy’s lies. We need pray every day, God, help me overcome my unbelief.

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me” (Psalm 28:7).

When the enemy whispers, “You can’t do this!” Counter back with God’s truth… “I can do all this through Christ who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13).
