When one part of your body is in distress, it disrupts the function of the rest of your body as well.

When I suffered a compound fracture to my right ankle after losing my balance on a trampoline, I needed lots of help. At that time our daughter was six and our son was almost two. I never realized how hard it would be to function with only one leg. I felt so helpless.  Even the simplest of tasks were difficult to manage.  Only my foot was in distress, and yet it affected how my entire body functioned.

Thankfully, my family became a great support during that time. Even neighbors rallied to our side by sending meals, notes of encouragement, and helping with childcare. Without their help, our family would have been under great duress.  It was a humbling experience to be so dependent on others, but also encouraging to witness their outpouring of love and support.

“The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ.” (1 Corinthians 12:12)

All Christians – no matter what denomination, country, or church building they call home – make up the body of Christ.  Although we are many parts, we are one body!

“God has combined the members of the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it, so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.” (1 Corinthians 12:24-26)

As one body, we need to come to the aid of our brothers and sisters in Christ – not just here in the United States but around the world. Believers everywhere need our support and encouragement as they suffer trials and tribulation.

Whether your support consists of prayers, finances, or a mission trip, we need to share the burden of others both here and around the world.

After all… when one part of the body suffers – we all suffer.

“Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” (1 Corinthians 12:27)
