Our world is perpetually changing. By the time new technology is released, it’s outdated. Someone has already invented the next new thing; it just hasn’t reached the market yet.

The constant changes in technology can be a bit unsettling for those of us over fifty. Even if we keep the same cell phone for years (which I do), the software is ever-changing. Sometimes I wake up to an update on my phone and my first thought is: Oh no! What new thing must I learn how to navigate?

Even though I sometimes get frustrated with technology, I admit, many advances have simplified our lives. Technology is not the devil, as some have claimed, though I’m sure he will use it to his advantage when he can. (But even then, God will turn it around for good.)

One of my favorite technological advances is voice activation. I simply speak into a device and it is so. I can ask Siri for help and she promptly replies. Sometimes I “talk to text” notes I want to remember or messages I need to send. I can even speak into our television remote control device to find programs to watch.

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you” (Matthew 7:7).

While it’s amazing to speak something out loud and see it come to fruition, I’m reminded that speaking things into existence is not new technology. It’s been around since the beginning of time. “And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light” (Genesis 1:3).

I’m guessing God had His hand in developing voice activation technology. 😉

The Bible tells us, God created us in His image. One of the ways He created us in His image is that He has given us power in our words. “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit” (Proverbs 18:21). “The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise bring healing” (Proverbs 12:18).

Our words are not only for the betterment of mankind. Our words can also be used to declare and decree a thing into existence. When our words align with the will of God, our heavenly Father moves on our behalf to make it so. Jesus modeled this principle repeatedly. He spoke to the wind and the waves, and it was calm. He cast demons out with a simple command. He told the illness to leave and people were healed. Jesus’ words held power. And now, our words have power too!

We simply need to come into agreement with the power that is at work within us and use it for good. Call down the evil you see. Cast out the enemy and tell him where to go. Speak to the pain or sickness and command it to flee. Declare a thing, and it will be so. “What you decide on will be done, and light will shine on your ways” (Job 22:28).

Before Jesus ascended into heaven, He spoke these words, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8).

This promise is for all Believers.

The power is ours for the taking. But many have forgotten who they are, sons and daughters of an all-powerful God who is above all things, and created all things.

Jesus said, “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it” (John 14:12:14).

So, what is it that you would like to see happen in your life, in your family’s life, throughout the world? Use your God-given voice. Speak it out. Declare it. Decree it. Thank God for it. Believe it has happened, and so it will be. Believe before you see (Hebrews 11:1). You’ve got power!

Activate your God-given voice, and use it for good.
