David’s son, Solomon, was instructed to build a magnificent temple—a dwelling place for the LORD. He took his job very seriously, making sure that only the finest materials were used in the Temple’s construction. Materials such as pure gold, precious gems, and fine linen were carefully chosen to represent God’s holy dwelling.
Today, God dwells in a different temple—you and me. As sons and daughters of His Majesty, we are the crowning jewels of our King. Precious in His sight, we are shining forth His brilliance.
“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).
“I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels” (Isaiah 61:10).
Precious stones such as emeralds, rubies, and sapphires do not simply appear overnight. They are the result of a geological phenomenon that takes place over many years. Amazingly, ordinary rocks become gems when they are exposed to intense heat and pressure.
Are you weighted down by the pressures of life? Does it seem as though heartache and adversity follow you wherever you go?
Take heart! Like ordinary rocks beneath the earth’s crust, you are slowly being transformed into precious gems—jewels that are fit for a KING.
“The LORD their God will save them on that day as the flock of his people. They will sparkle in his land like jewels in a crown” (Zechariah 9:16).
