Where is your worship? I’m not talking about who you sing to or how often you sit in a church and worship with others.
I’m asking about your heart. “Where your treasure is there your heart is also” (Luke 12:34).
What do you think about the most? If you reflect on this past week, what did you talk and think about most? You’ll quickly find out where, who, and what is on your throne? What are you molding and shaping your thoughts and life around? We all have something or someone; the question is, what is it?
This hit home to me the other day when I heard this question. I was sad, convicted, and desired to put Jesus back on the throne.
Daily, we can make mental shifts to worship Jesus more. What we focus on, grows. We become what we behold.
I found several things pulling me away from Jesus:
- Rejection and proving myself enough
- My weight and the clothes I no longer fit into
- My job – wondering if I’m valuable and a good team player
- My son’s new sport and how excited I am for him
- My friendships
- What my husband thinks of me
- My bank account and how much is in it or how much I don’t have
So many things want to capture my attention. Good or bad – I’m focusing on them more than Jesus. Ouch.
So many things I’m worshiping instead of where I want my true worship to be. There’s one thing that I know I can do. I can ask God to help change my heart. I can give him permission and an invitation to steer my focus to him. Jesus, “keep my heart open and eyes up on you.” That’s my prayer.
If I rely on myself, I will fail time and time again. If I ask Him for help, he will surely come.
“I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth” (Psalms 121:1-2).
