“I am still confident of this, I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord, be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord” (Psalm 27:13-14).
Where is your confidence? In man? In politics? In the scale? In your job? In the news? In your workouts? In your vitamins? In your medication? In your date night? In your babysitter? In your parents? In your church? In your family? In yourself?
You may need an adjustment; I know I often do. I want my confidence in the Lord: that I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living, and that I will see with my own eyes the prayers I’ve been praying for a long time come to pass on earth in the land of the living (Psalm 27:13).
Like you, I know I’m sometimes growing weary praying those prayers. Things seem to get worse and not better. Well, he said to wait: so wait, be strong, take heart, and wait for the Lord (Psalm 27:14).
God’s timing is not our timing. God’s plan is not our plan. He is for you. He is for me. He is for the person you are praying for, and He is for your worst enemy. He has a plan; so wait, be strong, take heart, and wait for the Lord (Psalm 27:14).
What does waiting look like for me?
- When I have no more patience, I will put on worship music, take a deep breath, and remind myself to wait.
- When I’m weary and lost, I will get out my Bible and find scriptures of hope and wait for the Lord.
- When the night seems long and the darkness is thick, I will light a candle that smells really good and remember that there is nowhere I can go from him. I will remember that His Spirit is with me. I will remember that His presence is surrounding me. I will remember that darkness is as light to Him. I will remember that I can be patient because He is doing things I can’t see or understand. I will remember that my hope is in Him, and His goodness is worth the wait. I will remember that He won’t let me down. He never has.
He operates in a sphere that my human eyes can’t see and my mind can’t comprehend. I need to leave the judging to Jesus and the healing to the Healer.
Help me Jesus to trust you. Help me be patient and wait. I put all my hope in Christ alone. Amen.
