I was on my way back from my sister’s house and got a call that the event I was rushing back for had been cancelled. Only 10 minutes into my drive I felt a prompting to turn around and stay a while longer so my son could attend a party with his cousins. It was only a few hours longer and not much of a big deal to delay our travel.
We got back on the road later that afternoon. I turned on my Waze App. I usually wait until later in the drive, but this time I turned it on early for some reason. I’ve driven this road 100 times so I don’t need much direction.
Today, it took me on a different route, so I went ahead and followed it. I had to go about 12 miles out of my way to get back on the main road. When I did, I saw 4 police cars and huge pellets of salt all over the road, salt like the kind of that goes in a water softener. It looked like it had just snowed salt. They had one lane open and clear when I passed, but the rest was still covered and a mess. Then I saw the huge semi that was smashed up that must have been carrying all of this salt.
So what came to my mind after I passed this? God’s timing is perfect. I know that I had turned around that morning because he wanted me to miss that accident. He orders our steps. We can trust that each choice we make, each footstep we take, He will place it where it needs to go.
This story is one way that the Lord showed up for me last Saturday. I bet you have countless stories like this too. You may also have a story that didn’t turn out so pretty. I have some of those myself. But I will tell you, that even in those, God has made something of purpose out of those painful moments. And I can look and see God in the midst of them.
Father, help us to trust you more and more, even when we don’t see or understand. Order our steps and keep us protected from anything you don’t want us to walk into. In our pain and suffering, be close to us, heal us and give us hope in you that you will work all things for the good. You are a God that makes beauty out of ashes and turns dust into life. You know each thing we are facing today. You know the heavy loads we are carrying. We lay them down at your feet and ask you to help us stop striving and start trusting and resting in you. We want to bring more glory to you from our lives. Have your way in us. We love and trust you, Jesus. In your name. Amen.
“Trust in the Lord completely, and do not rely on your own opinions. With all your heart, rely on him to guide you, and he will lead you in every decision you make. Become intimate with him in whatever you do, and he will lead you wherever you go” (Proverbs 3:5,6 TPT).
“He works all things together for the good of those who love him and are called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).
