“As a prisoner of the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received” (Ephesians 4:1)

Perhaps you’ve heard L’Oreal’s advertising slogan, “Because You’re Worth It.”

What a great marketing catchphrase, and what a remarkable statement about our true identity and value as children of God.

Unfortunately, we oftentimes believe the opposite. We believe and feel we are unworthy and undeserving of love, blessings, accolades…

I can certainly relate to feeling unworthy or undeserving, especially when it comes to accolades.

I honestly don’t know what to say or how to react when someone gives me a compliment. Of course I say thank you, but deep down, I don’t believe the statement is true.

I remember when my husband and I were newly married and he held me accountable for my self-deprecation.

I thought my lack of confidence was discretely hidden, only to discover the truth— self-doubt was written all over my face. Gerry said, “Every time I give you a compliment you roll your eyes.” (Wow, I had no idea that my lack of confidence was so blatantly evident.) Then he said the words that cut straight to my heart, “When you roll your eyes like that, it’s like you don’t value what I think or how I feel.

I felt horrible! I had no idea my reaction was causing him pain.

God blessed me with this amazing and wonderful husband, a husband who loves me unconditionally and truly believes I’m beautiful (so much so that He calls me his Pretty Little Princess). I am truly the luckiest bride in the world, and I was throwing his compliments (and ultimately his love) right back in his face. It was a hard lesson for me to learn but one that I will never forget.

I’m not going to lie. I still struggle to believe compliments when they come from others, but I can honestly say that I now believe my husband’s compliments are coveted words of truth, spoken directly from his heart.

God also has words of truth for His Bride—you and me. Drink-in the love of God and truly receive His words of truth.

Why?

Because you’re worth it!

  • You are beautiful. (Psalm 45:11)
  • You are a chosen as God’s special possession. (1 Peter 2:9)
  • You are treasured. (Deuteronomy 7:6)
  • You are set-apart. (Psalm 4:3)
  • You are priceless. (1 Peter 1:18)
  • You are strong. (Habakkuk 3:19)
  • You are loved and worth dying for. (John 3:16)
  • You are anointed. (2 Corinthians 1:21-22)
  • You are God’s delight. (Psalm 147:11)
