I sometimes find myself stuck, unable to string meaningful thoughts and ideas together when it’s time to write something for Living in Truth Ministries. The blinking curser across the computer screen mocks my futile efforts. Face it… you’ve got nothing.
Some people work well under pressure. I’m not one of them. I need time to think through, process, and marinate on creative thoughts before I put them down on paper. If writing styles were cooking methods, I’d fall into the slow cooker category.
Writer’s block is especially challenging when I have a deadline to meet. It’s easy to become frustrated by my lack of inspiration, but I’ve learned after many years not to panic when my mind draws a blank.
Rather than forging ahead with no clear sense of direction, I step away from the computer and redirect my attention towards something else. God has taught me that oftentimes the reason I’m stuck is because there’s a particular piece of information that has not yet been revealed, be it through a person or experience. The critical piece of information, once it is revealed, creates a downpour of fresh revelation, causing the words to once again flow with ease. My willingness to wait on God’s perfect timing to connect the dots eventually leads me back to the path of forward motion.
Is there a place in life where you feel stuck, unable to move forward? What’s true in writing is true in life. Prayerfully step away for a time, and allow God time and space to work.
“Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10).
Whether you’re feeling trapped in a relationship, stuck on a project, or bound by a stronghold… sometimes moving forward in faith means standing completely still. ~Nicki Koziarz
“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord” (Psalm 27:14)
You’ll be glad you did!
