Perhaps more than any other technological advance, the telephone has experienced the greatest transformation. The first public phone conversation made its debut on March 10, 1876 when Alexander Graham Bell communicated a brief message to his assistant Mr. Watson.
Since its invention, the phone has changed in both appearance and functionality.
I wonder what Mr. Bell would think of his invention today?
21st century phones double as mini computers. Just the other day I used my smart phone to research movies playing in our small town cinema. In a matter of seconds, I had all the information I could possibly need.
Let me just say, a trip to the movie theater thirty years ago required a bit more effort. You could either take time to search the entertainment section of the newspaper or call the cinema directly and listen to the lengthy prerecorded message touting every movie title, rating, and show time.
If you missed part of the message or got a busy signal, you had to hang up and try again.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… I’m so thankful for modern technology! No more busy signal. No more hassle.
Here’s something else I’m grateful for—instant access to my Father in heaven. I can commune with Him anytime, anywhere.
Friends, when Jesus went to the cross and gave His life as a final sacrifice for our sins, we were instantly set free from the burdensome rituals of the Old Testament. The very moment Jesus breathed His last breath, the temple curtain (four inches thick and 70 ft. high) tore in two, signifying open access to our Father in heaven.
No more barriers. No more animal sacrifices. No more hassle. Just you and me having an intimate conversation with God.
I’m so grateful to have a direct line to the Father. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for paving the way towards a fulfilling relationship with you!
“At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life.” (Matthew 27:51-52)
“Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.” (Hebrews 10:19-23)
