I always enjoy the holidays, but I must admit, afterwards, I’m usually ready to get back to a normal routine. Call me a creature of habit, but I like it when my life has some regularity to it. During the holidays my schedule gets all out of whack, and as a result, my sleep patterns, eating habits, and even my daily time with God suffers, and I find myself slipping into depression.
I don’t know about you, but I’m glad to get back to a semblance of normalcy again. It’s time to get back on track!
A new year brings new opportunities, and with it, promises of change and resolution. Making a New Year’s resolution is a great way to make positive changes in your life; but don’t fall into the trap of believing you have to wait for a whole new year to start fresh with a new beginning. God’s mercies are new every morning.
“Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23)
Two weeks from now, if you find yourself slipping away from your New Year’s resolution and it feels as though you’ve blown it, don’t worry. Just get back up, dust yourself off, and start again.
Dear Lord, as this new year begins, help me to make positive changes to my life. These things I pray…
“Turn my eyes away from the worthless things; preserve my life according to your word.” (Psalm 119:37)
“Set a guard over my mouth, O LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips. Let not my heart be drawn to what is evil, to take part in wicked deeds with men who are evildoers.” (Psalm 141:3-4)
“Send forth your light and your truth, let them guide me; let them bring me to your holy mountain, the place where you dwell.” (Psalm 43:3)
“Teach me your way, O LORD, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.” (Psalm 86:11)
“Give me discernment that I may understand your statutes.” (Psalm 119:125)
“Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.” (Psalm 143:8)
“Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.” (Psalm 143:10)
