“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.” (Hebrews 10:23)

“Staying power” – the ability to remain under the pressure. Nothing is more essential to success in the Christian life. Faith gets you started, but perseverance keeps you going.” (James McDonald, Gripped by the Greatness of God)

There are times when I feel beaten down by life’s circumstances. Perhaps you can relate. My wheels are spinning rapidly, but I’m going nowhere fast. I suppose the key to my discouragement lies within the pace at which I wish to travel – fast.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t particularly like waiting for things to happen. When God has shown me something He wants to do in my life, I’m ready for it. When I don’t see things happening as quickly as I want or hope, I get discouraged and feel like giving up.

“Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.” (1Timothy 4:15-16)

Once, when I was feeling down, a friend recognized that I was growing weary and wrote to me a letter of encouragement. Through her words, I felt a wash of God’s love and knew the Lord was speaking to me. Here are a few of the words she wrote.

“If you stand firm on His Word and plant seeds where he takes you, He will water them. You may never get to see the harvest, but trust Him. He will water in His timing….. Take God’s hand every time, and let Him lead the way. He will never leave or forsake you. Go boldly for Him.”

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9)

Do you know someone who is growing weary?

Never underestimate the power of your encouraging words.
