If you are struggling to overcome the many lies of this world, you are not alone. Anyone who is in bondage to a stronghold or addiction has been deceived by the enemy. I too was deceived. Over time, God gave me His truths to counteract each lie I once believed. May God speak to you through His powerful truths and bring you to a place of freedom. Replace lies with truth and the truth will set you free! (John 8:32)
LIE: This is the last time I will give-in to my eating disorder. I’ll get back on track tomorrow.
GOD’S TRUTH: “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak” (Mark 14:38).
“But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it” (I Corinthians 10:13).
LIE: It’s nobody else’s business what I do with my body. I’m not hurting anyone.
GOD’S TRUTH:“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).
LIE: Why can’t people just accept me as I am?
GOD’S TRUTH:“As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him— you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 2:4-5).
LIE: If I lose weight, others will love and accept me.
GOD’S TRUTH:“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ” (Galatians 1:10).
LIE: If anyone knew the truth about me, they would be disgusted. They wouldn’t want anything to do with me.
GOD’S TRUTH: “When I am afraid, I will trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me” (Psalm 56:3-4)?
LIE: I don’t have enough will power to break free. I’m just too weak.
GOD’S TRUTH: “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak” (Isaiah 40:29).
LIE: How can I face people once they know the real me?
GOD’S TRUTH: “As Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame” (Romans 10:11).
LIE: Why would God want to waste his time on me of all people?
GOD’S TRUTH: “Because [she] loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue [her]; I will protect [her], for [she] acknowledges my name. [She] will call upon me, and I will answer [her]; I will be with [her] in trouble, I will deliver [her] and honor [her]” (Psalm 91:14-15). (Gender emphasis added)
LIE: With a past like mine, I’ll never be of any use to God.
GOD’S TRUTH: “Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners-of whom I am the worst. But for that reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life” (1 Timothy 1:15-16).
LIE: This is the hand that I’ve been dealt. I just need to accept it and move on.
GOD’S TRUTH: “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’” (Jeremiah 29:11).
“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6)
LIE: I can’t do this alone.
GOD’S TRUTH: “For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, ‘Do not fear; I will help you.’” (Isaiah 41:13)
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior…” (Isaiah 43:2-3a).
LIE: I’ll never be completely free from this; it’s going to haunt me for the rest of my life.
GOD’S TRUTH: “For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline” (2 Timothy 1:6-7).
“So do not throw away your confidence; you will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised” (Hebrews 10:35-36).
If any of these lies resonate with you, copy down the truths and read through them every day.
