All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
When I was a Girl Scout, one of the more important skills that I learned was how to build a fire. We were taught to blow softly on smoldering coals to get the fire going. A soft and steady flow of carbon dioxide made the embers glow more brightly, causing the hot coals to burst into flames.
Is your walk with God burning bright with intensity or does it feel more like smoldering coals?
If your passion isn’t what it used to be, I have good news for you. The same technique for stoking a campfire can help ignite your passion for God with one major difference. We need the breath of God.
God’s Spirit is repeatedly represented through flames and fire in Scripture. The burning bush (Exodus 3), the pillar of fire at night (Exodus 13), fire on the mountain (Exodus 19), the lamp stand in the tabernacle (Exodus 25), and the tongues of fire resting upon the disciples (Acts 2). Each of these represents the manifestation of God’s Spirit.
Since all Scripture is God-breathed (2 Timothy 3:16-17), every time you and I study Scripture, God fans the flame of His Spirit in our hearts and ignites His all-consuming fire.
So…what are you waiting for?
If you want God’s Spirit burning with intensity, spend more time in His Word.
“The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life.” (Job 33:4)
