During a team building exercise for Living in Truth Ministries, our group was instructed to navigate a course that was designed to help us work together as a team. After a rocky start, we began to make progress towards our predetermined destination, but just when we thought we had the challenging course conquered, one of the girls lost her balance and fell off the wooden beam. Rules are rules. If someone fell off, we had to go back to the beginning and start again. Frustrated because we had almost made it to the finish line, we begrudgingly got into our positions and started over. Before we started moving forward again, one of the girls suggested we try things a little differently this time. To our surprise, her suggestion got us to our goal in record time!
“Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” (James 1:12)
Many times in life we grow frustrated by our mistakes, especially when it means we must start all-over again, but like our team building exercise, sometimes life’s little blunders offer wonderful pauses to gain fresh perspective and do things differently.
Don’t get discouraged when you make mistakes. Mistakes provide opportunities to learn and grow. Who knows… like our team building experience, your little blunder just might be a remedy for success.
“You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.” (Hebrews 10:36)
If at first you don’t succeed… try, try again.
