Some of us are trying to offer up spiritual sacrifices to God before we have sacrificed the natural. The only way in which we can offer a spiritual sacrifice to God is by presenting our bodies as a living sacrifice. ~Oswald Chambers

Daily we must die to our sinful nature. We must pick up our cross and follow Jesus. Take it from someone who knows… this is not an easy thing to do.  But I will tell you this. It’s a heck of a lot easier than continuing to living in the bondage to sin that’s feeding off the lies and empty promises of Satan.

The lies and promises that are filtered through our fleshly desires may make us feel good for a time, but the longer we remain in our stronghold of sin, the emptier we feel, and the harder it is to find our way back to God.

“If a man cannot get through to God it is because there is a secret thing he does not intend to give up.” (Oswald Chambers)

For years I rationalized my bulimic behavior by telling myself that this was simply a way for me to control my weight. My yearning to be beautiful by the world’s standards distorted reality, and I don’t mind telling you I was miserable!

I lived by the scale.  If my weight was down it was a good day. If my weight was up it was a horrible day. What an awful way to live! In my mind, if I could achieve beauty by the world’s standards, I would finally be happy. I was drowning in a pit of Satan’s lies!

“I waited patiently for the LORD: he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set me my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD.” (Psalm 40:1-3)

Perhaps you can relate in some way to my pit dwelling experience. God has something so much better waiting for you. Allow the Truths of His Word to penetrate your heart and bring healing to your soul.

“Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples, then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32)

Echoing the words of Christian author Beth Moore: Without the Word of God as my daily bread, I would be buried in a pit so deep that I wouldn’t recognize daylight.
