“The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:17-18)
We all have days when things look bleak and are not going quite as we had hoped – even me. So what does the person who is supposed to be encouraging others do when she needs some encouragement?
First, I go to God in prayer and cry out for guidance. Then, I go to His Word and ask Him to fill me with His Words of truth. When I’m feeling very discouraged I can usually link my feelings to a specific lie that I have come to believe about myself or my circumstances.
“Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.” (Psalm 25:5)
There are some days, however, that I need an additional boost of encouragement from a Christian sister or friend. God has placed some wonderful godly women in my life who help lift me out of the pit of despair and lovingly carry me to Jesus. They offer words of encouragement, helping me to see things from a broader perspective, and most importantly they pray for me.
“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up.” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10)
Dear Lord, thank you for my dear sisters-in-Christ who shine your light in my darkest days. Please pour out your blessings on them for their faithful support, and help me be as good a friend to them, as they are to me. Amen
