Today’s Post Written By: Rhonda Stinson

Some things are going to happen no matter how much we would like to stop them from doing so. One of them is growing old. My grandma is in a local healthcare facility for people with dementia and Alzheimer’s. Lately, she’s been itching herself due to some kind of rash. Today, while waiting for dinner, I told her to let me look at her stomach. She was seated, and when she lifted up her shirt, I saw what looked to be a big mole at the end of a small protruding mass. It was at the same level as her belly button. It didn’t take long to realize this was a sign of age…fallen, droopy boobs.

I often find myself gazing at youthful pictures of these old people, which now hang outside each resident’s door. One of the women was beautiful, intelligent, and the wife of a now retired doctor. It’s been said that she was once snooty because of her wealth and beauty. Today, she sits in a wheelchair with her legs hanging over the side and underwear showing.

“Let the lowly brother glory in his exaltation, but the rich in his humiliation, because as a flower of the field, he will pass away. For no sooner has the sun risen with a burning heat than it withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beautiful appearance perishes. So the rich man will fade away in his pursuits.” (James 1:9-11)

The things which seem important now usually change with age. We begin to understand that beauty, weight loss, finances, and other such trivial issues begin to dim and things such as family, friends, and making a difference in someone else’s life start to step into the spotlight of our thoughts and time.

“The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.” (1 John 2:17)

Death is inevitable if we’re still here before the Lord’s return. Any one of us could pass away at any given moment. God has not given us advance notice of the day, place, and time, but He has told us it will happen. The end is coming, but do you know where you will end up in the end?

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.” (John 3:16-18)
