The fly relentlessly struggled to free itself from the spider’s web, but the more it turned about, the more it became entangled until it finally went lifeless. As I examined the intricacy of this beautiful cobweb, the spider was closing in on its dead prey. Four other insects were also dead. How did they all end up here? Was the web so transparent that they didn’t see it? Were they attracted to it somehow? I must say, a web is beautiful when dew is upon it and the sunlight hits at just the right angle across its chords.
We, as humans, have fallen into a trap at one time or another. Satan seems to weave a beautiful web and put a sticky substance on it to keep us trapped, until our struggle seems utterly hopeless. You may fall into a trap and not realize what you’ve gotten yourself into until you’re in over your head.
I know firsthand that addictions begin with a temptation. The more the addict fights to get out of it on his/her own, the more entangled and hopeless he/she becomes. There is only one way to be fully free from the web of Satan’s deceit and that is by giving it over to God. We have to stop moving around in the web, become still, and pray so that we become so familiar with His teachings by reading the Word that the way to freedom is clear.
“But the salvation of the righteous is from the LORD; He is their strength in the time of trouble. And the LORD shall help them and deliver them; He shall deliver them from the wicked, because they trust in Him.” (Psalm 37:30-40)
