“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’” (Isaiah 6:8)

One sunny afternoon in the spring of 2008 my phone rang. The female on the other end of the phone wasted no time in explaining the reason for her call. “Rae Lynn, we’ve received some calls at the station since your interview aired.  People are asking where they can find a Bible based support group for eating disorders.”

Just weeks earlier I had shared my testimony on a Christian radio program called Water through the Word and talked about a community of women who had become instrumental in my recovery from bulimia. I suggested that if anyone was struggling to overcome this type of addiction, they should get involved in a Bible based support group for eating disorders. Since I was the one who put the suggestion out there, I wanted to follow through and point people in the right direction.

“Thanks for calling, Erin. I’ll see what I can find out.”

After much research, I discovered there were absolutely no Bible based support groups specific to eating disorders in the tri-state area where I lived.  The sudden realization of this became a burden on my heart, so I cried out to God.

Lord, I am only free because of You and Your amazing Truth. I know how vital Christian support was in my own recovery. I am confident others would find the same benefit. What do You want me to do with this information?

God continued to nudge me in the direction of taking action, but I was hesitant. I didn’t know the first thing about starting a support group. A debate played out in my mind. Although I was in a season of life and could devote time for such an enterprise, I had absolutely no earthly credentials to qualify me for such an assignment. All I had to offer was my personal experience.

Over the next few days God confirmed over and over through His Word that starting a group was definitely what He was calling me to do. I finally surrendered and answered His call with a timid, yet resolute, Here am I, Lord. Send me!

Within weeks God had connected me with individuals who encouraged me to move forward, and then He pointed me towards some necessary tools to cultivate His vision. Only a few months later, Living in Truth Ministries was born.

It is amazing what God can do when we say yes to His call.

If you are at a place where you want to serve God but have no idea how or where you could be used, simply pray these words. Here am I, Lord. Send me!  God will do the rest.

God doesn’t call the qualified; He qualifies the called.

Lord, You are so amazing! I still don’t feel like I know what I’m doing, leading this ministry, and there are always obstacles and new things to learn, but You have been faithful and always present by my side.. I have complete faith that You will help me get through anything that comes my way, but I need you to guide my every step. I am completely dependent on You and never want to travel this road alone. Thank You for Your continued guidance, and thank You for Your encouragement when I grow weary or begin to doubt. I am forever Yours. Do with me whatever You think is good and right. I will do whatever You ask; just help me be strong and courageous. May it be all of you and none of me!
