Clearing a New Path
“Show me your ways, O LORD, teach me your paths.” (Psalm 25:4)

Some of my most precious memories from childhood come from our family’s time on the farm. Our weekend getaways to the farm in Milan, IN were a great escape from the hustle and bustle of suburbia.
The farm had sixty plus acres, plenty of room for nine kids to run and play. We had a great big field next to the farmhouse with a trail for our little Honda 90 motorcycle. It was great fun! The path was well-worn and easy to travel, but every once in a while we would veer off the beaten path and explore other parts of the field.
The grass and weeds outside of the path were so tall they often obstructed our view from the obstacles before us. Sometimes we would hit a big bump and practically fall off the motorcycle. It was safer to stay on the beaten path, but not nearly as interesting.
“He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake.” (Psalm 23:3)
When I first started Living in Truth Ministries, I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. This ministry was and still is unchartered territory for me – a path I’ve never before traveled. Because everything is new to me, I’ve made some mistakes along the way. Sometimes it feels similar to those times I strayed off the main motorcycle trail – excited yet scared. I can’t always see what’s ahead, and the unexpected bumps can nearly knock me down, but I continue to press on.
“Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.” (Psalm 23:4)
Think about it. Somebody had to clear the original motorcycle path. Doing so would have taken great amounts of time and effort. They had to bore through the weeds, rocks, and bumps in order to create a safe path for others to travel.
I may not always know what’s up ahead, but I need to remember, I’m NOT clearing this path alone.
The bumps are going to keep coming, but Jesus is walking ahead, leading the way and minimizing my risks.
He also goes behind me, ready to catch me when I fall.
“You broaden the path beneath me, so that my ankles do not turn.” (Psalm 18:36)
In short, I don’t need to know where I’m going because Jesus knows the way.
He knows your way too!
Whether you’re clearing a new trail or traveling a well-worn path, keep your eyes on Jesus – He will pave the way!
“When my spirit grows faint within me, it is you who know my way.” (Psalm 142:3)
“In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:6)
