“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I, send me!”(Isaiah 6:8)
I speak in many different venues, talking about the dangers of eating disorders from the perspective of my personal experience. Although I have shared my testimony of being set free from bulimia many times, each and every occasion holds special significance for me because I have the opportunity to boast about my weakness.
Perhaps you are wondering why anyone would want to boast about his or her weakness. The reason is simple… my weakness is the avenue through with God’s power is made perfect.
“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)
When we are real with people, removing our mask, no longer pretending that we have it all together, it gives others permission to do the same. I encourage you to remove your mask and begin boasting about your weakness. God will use your humble heart to help to prick the hearts of those listening. Through your example, they too will learn how to get real with God. So go ahead… boast!
“If I must boast, I will boast of the things that show my weakness.” (2 Corinthians 11:30)
