But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.” (2 Peter 3:13)
My husband and I have had the privilege of building two homes during our twenty-six years of marriage. When we decided to build our second home, we realized it might be our last living quarters. After considering several different house plans with our builder, we settled on an open two-story design with the master suite and main living quarters on the first floor. We figured that if we were going to grow old in this home, we needed it to be elderly friendly.
This home has everything I could possibly ever want and so much more. We are very blessed. One of the things I absolutely love is the way our house is nestled in the woods. As you peer out the windows of the second story, you are face to face with the tree tops. Squirrels scamper along the canopies and birds perch atop the branches. I never realized just how much I would enjoy living in the woods. This particular aspect of our home is a special gift from God. He knows me better than I know myself. He knew it would bring me tremendous joy to sit on our back deck, enjoying His magnificent creation.
“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him” (1 Corinthians 2:9)
As much as I love this home, it cannot compare with the splendor awaiting me in heaven. Even now, Jesus is preparing my final home in heaven, putting His final touches here and there – the special details that He knows will bring me great joy.
“In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” (John 14:2-4)
Are you looking forward to your final destination? I sure am!
As Colton Burpo would say, heaven is for real!
“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.” (Matthew 25:34)
