“We tend to want to pick our blessings from the tree while they are still green, yet God wants us to wait until they are fully ripe.” ~Streams in the Desert

We live in a world of instant gratification. Americans have especially been groomed to see it, want it, and get it now. We can cook food in record time, travel the world in no time flat, and access information lickety-split.  For goodness sake, we can even have fun on demand.

God is not confined by an earthly timetable, but He rarely does things quickly. I’ve even heard it said that God is never late, but He’s seldom early.

“But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.” (Romans 8:25)

Because we have been so programmed by instant gratification mentality, we have lost much of the joy that comes from waiting.  As a child, I learned that sometimes the anticipation of something you desire is more delightful than the actual experience.

My excitement would build before each Christmas or birthday, waiting for that special something. Sometimes I saved up months of allowance in order to get a special toy or item of clothing. The anticipation was actually fun!

Many today have the mentality: if you want it now—get it now.  We miss out on so much enjoyment when we immediately satisfy every longing of the heart.

If you are waiting for something special, I want to encourage you to enjoy your time of waiting.  Joyfully anticipate the wonderful moment when you finally receive your perfectly timed, fully ripened blessing.

“But as for me, I watch in hope for the LORD, I wait for God my Savior….” (Micah 7:7)

There is nothing quite like biting into a vine-ripened piece of fruit; and there is nothing quite like experiencing a blessing that’s been given at its God-appointed peak.

Wait for it!
