Each week of the show Man vs. Wild, a former British Special Forces officer is dropped into extreme environments around the world to teach life-saving, survival techniques. His proven methods help individuals battle the elements and find their way back to safety.
In one particular episode, Bear Grylls entered a remote rainforest far from the comforts of advanced civilization. Because of the tall trees and thick undergrowth, even this survival expert became disoriented and confused about which way he should go. Thankfully he didn’t panic. Instead, he climbed a lofty tree to gain better perspective of the surrounding landscape. From this viewpoint, a clear path leading out of the jungle became obvious.
Sometimes in life we too can become confused about which way to go, especially when faced with life’s difficult challenges.
So how do we get out of the wilderness?
To find our way through life’s harsh conditions, we must climb to new heights with Jesus Christ and view things from His higher perspective.
“If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast…” (Psalm 139:9-10)
One thing is for sure—we are not on this path alone. We have a trusty travel guide (the Holy Spirit) and a reliable road map (God’s Word) to help us find our way out of the dense wilderness. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t consider taking a journey without these trustworthy survival tools.
“Send forth your light and your truth,
let them guide me;
let them bring me to your holy mountain,
to the place where you dwell…” (Psalm 43:3)
“Whether you turn to the right or the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’” (Isaiah 30:21)
A clear, discernible path will emerge when we view the situation from higher ground.
