Today’s Post By: Rae Lynn DeAngelis

One day our son’s check engine light suddenly appeared on his dash of his car, signaling there was a problem. Although it seemed to be running fine, the warning light remained.

The manufacturer put this internal detection in the car’s mechanical system to alert the driver to impending problems.  We could have certainly taken the vehicle to any mechanic, but decided the manufacturer was better equipped understand all the intricate workings of that particular year, make, and model.

God is our Creator – our Designer. He knows every detail of our mind, body, and soul. All of our hopes, dreams, insecurities, and fears are under His watchful eye. God’s Holy Spirit cautions us when  something’s not right. Unfortunately, we often ignore the Spirit’s promptings and continue speeding down the highway of life as if nothing is wrong.

We need to remember that God has a plan and purpose for each of our lives. His plan is to prosper us, not harm us. In light of this truth, we would be wise to seek and follow the Lord in all we do. We need to go to the Father, seek His guidance, and believe that He has our best interests at heart. In His infinite wisdom, God directs our steps towards His good and perfect will.

When a warning light comes on in the form of the Spirit’s nudging, don’t ignore it. Perhaps, like the dash of our son’s car, the Holy Spirit’s conviction is trying to help us avoid future hardships.

“You have searched me, LORD,
and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue
you, LORD, know it completely.
You hem me in behind and before,
and you lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.

For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
How precious to me are your thoughts, God!
How vast is the sum of them!
Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand—
when I awake, I am still with you.” (Psalm 139: 1-6, 13-18)
