On more than one occasion, my husband and I have had to go through the drudgery of canceling a credit card or changing the password on an account because someone took the liberty of stealing our identity.

Sadly, this kind of thing goes on in our world every day. If you’ve ever had it happen to you, you know how violating it feels when someone takes what’s rightfully yours and uses it for their own personal gain.

The truth is that everyone is at threat of having their identity stolen, and I’m no longer referring to credit cards, bank accounts, and personal ID.

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8).

There is a cultural epidemic in our society of not just stolen, but also misplaced, mistaken, and even misunderstood identity.

Since the very beginning, Satan has spun his whispering and cunning lies: “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from [the tree], your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil” (Genesis 3:4-5).

When Adam and Eve ate from the tree God commanded them not to eat of, their eyes did not open as the enemy so cunningly deceived. Instead, their eyes closed to truth of who they had been all along, image bearers of their Creator.

Our 10-week healing program, Eyes Wide Open, is focused on helping women get back to the truth of who they are and helping them embrace their unique identity. The process we use is biblical; it’s called renewing the mind (Romans 12:1-2). It’s kind of like resetting the password of your account so the thief no longer has access.

Up until now, Living in Truth Ministries has been attending to the women who are already in bondage to strongholds surrounding disordered eating, poor body-image, and low self-esteem. (Which, by the way, are often a consequence of misplaced identity.) But God opened our eyes to a new outreach opportunity when we were asked to give a presentation at one of the local Pregnancy Care Centers.

At first we wondered if this was a good fit for our organization. (It certainly wasn’t our normal audience.) But God is widening our realm of influence. What better way to prevent stolen identity than to fortify the entry point so it doesn’t get hacked in the first place?

As we pour into mom, we inadvertently pour into her child. As mom embraces her true identity, she communicates the same to her family. When the “access point” is fortified with truth, the enemy has a harder time getting lies to stick.

What about you?

Are you ready to embrace your unique identity, reset the password, and fortify your home? We can help you get started! Don’t be a victim of stolen identity any longer. Click Here to visit our “Who God Says You Are” page.

“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them” (Genesis 1:27).

“Impress this truth on your children. Talk about it with them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie it as symbols on your hands and bind it on your foreheads. Write it on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates” (Deuteronomy 6:7-9).
