Waiting for my mom to come out of the grocery store, my dad and I sat in the old, white station wagon, trying to pass away time. My dad pointed out a cleverly worded advertisement that was hanging near the entrance of a parking lot across the street. Not only could I not see the words on the sign, I couldn’t see the sign itself.  This was the day my parents discovered I needed glasses.

Who knows how long my eyesight had been impaired.  I didn’t have anything with which to compare my vision, so I hadn’t even realized my eyesight was compromised.

At age twelve when I put on my new glasses for the first time, I was completely amazed.  I could see everything.  Each blade of grass, each branch, each leaf—everything was crystal clear.

It’s amazing what we miss in life when we are not seeing things through the proper lens. God’s Word provides biblical perspective for everything we face in life. Written thousands of years ago, the Bible is still the best-selling piece of literature in print. Why? Because every passage of Scripture is living, active, and God-breathed.

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

We can easily become blinded by worldly pleasures and treasures and miss the awesome beauty and life transforming truths tucked into the pages of Scripture. With vision distorted by the world’s viewpoint, much like my childhood experience, one may not even realize what he or she is missing.

“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” (Psalm 119:105)

Are you looking at the world through a distorted lens?

Reach for the biblical lens of God’s Word and start seeing life from a whole new perspective.
