“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will council you and watch over you.” (Psalm 32:8)

My husband Gerry and I just got back from a week of fun in the sun. Rest is good for the soul. We always come away from our vacation time feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the world.

It’s time to get back into the swing of things. Creating this blog post is step in the right direction.

I’m passionate about writing. It’s one of the ways I process the world around me, but sometimes my creative flow takes a vacation of its own and I find myself lost for new ideas.

A good long rest has a way of taking care of writers block. I return from our short trips with enough material to fill a small book. This past trip was no exception.

During the fifteen and a half hour car drive, I had a lot of time to think. After a brief stop at a rest area to stretch our legs, my thoughts took a trip down memory lane, remembering family vacations of long ago.

Whenever we took a long car trip, my mom brought along a triptik—a spiral bound notebook filled with maps to guide the way to our destination. (For the millennials reading this post, that’s how we did it back in the day.)

I remember my mom getting out the triptik to show us how far we had traveled along with how far we’d yet to go. Looking at the pages still unturned, it appeared we would never reach our destination.

Life is a journey. Some are longer than others, but all have twists and turns, long passages, and places to pause and reflect how far we’ve come.

This year I will be fifty-two years old. In all likelihood my life is half over. It has been a long arduous ride at times, but it feels good to look back and see how far I’ve come.

Fifteen years ago my life looked completely different. God has worked amazing miracles in my life and allowed me to join Him on some pretty incredible adventures along the way.

I wouldn’t change a thing!

I’m not sure how many pages are left on my life-passage, but I will tell you this. I’m committed to following Jesus wherever He leads and intend to enjoy the ride along the way.

What about you? Where are you on this journey called life? Are you struggling up a tiring mountain pass, paused at a rest stop, or coasting down easy street?

Regardless of where you are today, take a moment to reflect back, see how far you’ve come, and thank God for the adventure thus far.

Be encouraged! Our destination will be worth the hardships we had to endure to get there.

“You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasure at your right hand.” (Psalm 16:11)
