For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water.” (Revelation 7:17)

When I was a kid, my friends and I loved to explore creek beds. Navigating the tributaries by stepping across large protruding rocks, we would sometimes find stagnant pools of water isolated from the free-flowing stream. These murky sections smelled foul and stood in stark contrast to the clear, fresh bubbling brooks just a few feet away.

In biblical times, free-flowing water was considered living water. Living water was life giving and continually fresh. For obvious reasons, it became necessary to build wells and cisterns to meet the needs of many people, but clean, clear, free-flowing water was always ideal.

“….The fountain of wisdom is a bubbling brook.” (Proverbs 18:4)

Daily, we need a fresh dose of God’s living water to course through our spirits. Hearing God’s Word spoken during Sunday morning service or through a small study group once a week is not enough. We need to be washed in the bubbling brook of God’s wisdom each and every day. Drink deep from the life-giving truths found in Scripture, truths that cleanse our hearts and minds and fill us so completely that we overflow onto others.

“Christ… gave up himself for [the church] to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word…” (Ephesians 5:26)

Have you received your daily dose of living water today?  Spend time sitting at the feet of Jesus and ask Him to fill your spirit and wash your mind with living water.

“Jesus answered, ‘Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.’” (John 4:13-14)
