“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” (Luke 11:9-10)

I glanced down at my sandals and noticed that one of the glittery rhinestone buttons which had transformed my ordinary flip flops into a super cute wardrobe statement was missing.

My heart sank to the pit of my stomach because I purchased the sandals just weeks before during our Florida vacation and had only worn them a few times. Now they were now ruined!

I scoured the house and car where I’d been most recently, but found nothing. I decided to mentally retrace my morning journey, trying to determine where I last saw the shoes intact. I remembered they were in one piece at the grocery store because a kindred fashionista had commented on their cuteness.

Okay, the button was on my sandal in the grocery… where did I go from there?

Our next stop was a roadside antique market just a few miles from home. All at once it hit me! I remembered seeing something shiny in the grass while walking back to our car. I had a prompting in my spirit to reach down and investigate the object but talked myself out of it, believing it to be junk.

Darn it! I bet that was the button off my shoe.

My husband suggested we go back to the market and check it out. I was skeptical but agreed it was worth a shot.

On the way there, I sheepishly prayed. God, please, please, please help me find my bedazzled charm. (I’m embarrassed to admit I had employed help from the heavens for such a vain request, but I was desperate.)

Pulling into the lot, I tried to remember the approximate location where we had originally parked. I gestured to Gerry where I thought it might be and got out of the car. Again I prayed. God, I know this is a silly thing to pray, but would you please help me find the piece to my shoe?

A moment later I peered into the grassy area several feet from our car and there it was—my rhinestone button.

God to the rescue!

Many of us downplay our day to day troubles, seeing them as insignificant, not worthy of God’s attention. But that’s simply not true. Through this experience God has taught me something beautiful about His character. If it matters to us, it matters to God!

Our heavenly Father cares about every detail of our lives. As a matter of fact, I believe God loves it when we come to Him with the small stuff. God delights in revealing Himself to us in ways big and small.

Like any great father, the Lord desires to give us His very best. We receive all of Him each time we give Him all of us. It’s a pretty sweet exchange!

“Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” (Luke 11:11-13)

Yes, it matters to God!
