Have you noticed that some things taste better depending on temperature? Coffee tastes better when it’s hot, and milk tastes better when it’s cold. Take a swig of either of these beverages at room temperature and you’re likely to gag. That in-between temperature just won’t do!

Apparently, God feels the same way. “I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” (Revelation 3:15-16)

According to God’s Word, lukewarm Christians just won’t do. God would rather us be hot or cold – one or the other. Lukewarm faith is kind of like lukewarm milk – yuck!

We know that deeds cannot save us because we are saved by faith in Jesus Christ.  However, God tells us in His Word that our deeds are a good indicator of the degree of our faith.

“What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds?” (James 2:14)

“As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.” (James 2:26)

“You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless?” (James 2:20)

Scripture tells us that faith without action is dead. “In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” (James 2:17)

We must put our faith into action by doing the Lord’s work here on earth. What good is it for us to be saved if all we do is sit around “believing” in God?

“You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.” (James 2:19)

According to the book of Revelation we are better off cold than lukewarm.

Do you know why?

Lukewarm Christians might as well be dead in Christ.  How are others going to learn about Jesus if we never get out there and introduce Him through our actions?

Remember how you felt when you first gave your life to Christ? May we keep that same zeal and passion throughout our entire faith journey.

Keep your passion searing hot as you put your faith into action!
